“CN Glass completed the main set of works in 2 weeks rather than the 3 that was originally allocated. The staff and management on site communicated progress exceptionally and the site was clean and safe during the work, the knock through work was done to a high standard and the new openings are like they’ve always been there.”
CN Glass was commissioned to replace the existing windows on the eastern elevation of Our Lady’s Catholic Primary School, as well as the high-level windows on the southern elevation of the hall.
The project also involved creating two new door openings, along with external groundworks to improve final exits and enhance overall accessibility.
Additionally, the school needed a glazing solution that would mitigate excessive heat transfer into classrooms during the summer months, ensuring a more comfortable learning environment.
With a tight three-week deadline due to other scheduled works on-site during the summer holidays, we worked efficiently to complete the main set of works ahead of schedule.
Challenges & Solutions
- Time Constraints – With only a three-week window for completion, our team streamlined operations and successfully finished the primary work in just two weeks, minimising disruption to the school’s refurbishment schedule.
- Maintaining Aesthetic Integrity – The school was concerned about the internal appearance of window surrounds after the removal of the old units. Our experts devised a tailored approach that ensured a clean, damage-free finish, leaving no visible cracks or inconsistencies. The external appearance also remained seamlessly in-keeping with the original brickwork, much to the school’s satisfaction.
- Asbestos Management – During the project, minor asbestos-containing materials were identified. We worked with a specialist sub-contractor to ensure the asbestos removal was handled safely and in full compliance with the school’s asbestos procedures, with all necessary documentation provided.
- Heat Transfer & Comfort – Classrooms experienced significant heat retention in the summer months, making learning conditions challenging. CN Glass recommended and installed an upgraded glazing solution to improve thermal regulation, creating a more comfortable space for students and staff.
The Results
- Ahead of Schedule: The primary work was completed in just two weeks, allowing additional time for final checks and school preparations.
- Seamless Integration: The new door openings were expertly crafted, appearing as though they had always been part of the building.
- Aesthetically Pleasing & Structurally Sound: Both internal and external finishes were of the highest standard, exceeding the school’s expectations.
- Enhanced Learning Environment: The improved glazing solution reduced summer heat transfer, ensuring a more comfortable and energy-efficient space.
